Estrelas are incredibly strong, highly intelligent, and extremely loyal guardians. Bred for pastoral protection in the rugged Serra da Estrela mountains of Portugal, they are rarely seen outside of Europe and this careful conservation of the breed has been instrumental in maintaining excellent conformation, consistent temperament, and exemplary natural instincts.
We are thankful to be a steward of this remarkable, rare LGD breed here in the United States and enjoy the opportunities to help educate others on what makes our Estrelas here at Bethel Kennels so special.
Because of this incredible breed standard, Estrelas are best suited for working ranches, farms, and homesteads with seasoned individuals who are well experienced in the stewardship of owning a highly effective livestock guardian dog.
Estrelas are not a beginner breed, but those innate abilities bred for centuries without dilution is what makes them a unique and welcome addition to a ranch or farm whose priority is securing those they guard, especially those with children.
